Music Notes – May 2018

Looking back to Easter

It’s a while since Easter and the Choir has been on its Easter break but is now back for the new term. However, I do want to look back to thank all who supported us through a very taxing but worthwhile Holy Week and Easter. The Choir sang 6 services over 4 days – no mean feat. I particularly want to congratulate the Junior Choir; there are very few children of their age who could have sung such a wide repertoire to such a professional standard. We should be very proud of what they have achieved and grateful for the way that they enhance our services week by week.

Adopt a Chorister

Singing consistently to a standard that you would expect to hear in our cathedrals and collegiate churches does not come without a lot of hard work and dedication. One of the keystones of our Choir training year is the annual summer school at Kingswood School, Bath. The choristers receive a week of intensive training from some of the top choir trainers and voice coaches in the country and they sing the Friday, Saturday and Sunday services in the fabulous setting of Bath Abbey.

This year we hope to have more choristers than ever attending and so, at £400 per chorister we have to raise a considerable sum to make this possible. We are, therefore, opening our ‘Adopt a Chorister’ Scheme. If you would like to help us maintain the high standard of choral music at St, Oswald’s please think about making a contribution. Any donation however small will help and will be very much appreciated.

Dates for the diary.

Choir at Lichfield Cathedral

The choir will be singing Evensong in Lichfield Cathedral on Saturday 26th May and, as in previous years we will hire a coach to take us there and back. If you would like to join us for the day please sign the list which will be on the table by the South Door after Easter. We shall leave Park Gates at 12 noon arriving at Lichfield by 2.00pm. Evensong is at 5.30pm and the coach will depart straight after the service so we should back in Oswestry by 8.00pm at latest. Places on the coach are £12 each.
