Just to keep you up to date, we are about two thirds through the Inventory now and this is when things seem to get complicated, don’t fit under the right headings and cross referencing comes into play. Just in case anyone is wondering why we haven’t finished yet there are 232 items under Woodwork, and 134 iron grilles covering the central heating pipes!
The next place to tackle is the Tower which houses the Choir Vestry and the Ringing Chamber.
The boards on the walls of the Ringing Chamber are records of lengthy peals made over the years to celebrate great occasions and these come under Paintings. However, there are a lot of wooden items and photographs to be recorded as well as some very old gravestones.
The subject of Textiles is proving difficult especially when recording kneelers, we found the names of the person who stitched them, and in whose memory they were dedicated. Hopefully these will come under an index of names – but that comes later!
In Isaac Watkin’s book Oswestry, a picture shows the 1662 font with a cover. Does anyone have any recollection of a font cover for that particular font?
The team welcomes any information that members of the congregation may have – just leave a note in church for me.
