To wish Frances Major, ringer at this tower, a speedy recovery.

On Saturday, 9th May, the bell ringers rang another quarter peal to mark the 70th anniversary of VE day. This was also at St Oswald’s, Oswestry starting at approximately 11am.

We hope that the people of Oswestry have enjoyed the ringing and that the reason for it makes the sound of the bells even more special.

To follow on from our 1/4 peal to mark the death of my father, Philip, there have been a couple of other performances of note.

Firstly, Malcolm Clarke rang a 1/4 peal to mark the exact 50th anniversary of his very first 1/4 peal, in the same tower, on the same bell, to the same method - but with a different set of ringers!

To mark the 50th anniversary of the first QP rung by 6 on this day in 1965 in this tower, in this method, and on this bell, for the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill.

Secondly, another 1/4 peal was rung for my dad, this time to celebrate his life and included John Ellis and Jan Snowball who had not been able to ring in the first 1/4 marking his death:

It may also be of interest that the bell ringers held their AGM on Thursday 7th February, chaired by the Vicar. All the current officers were re-elected to their posts and special mention was given to the generosity of the congregation of St Oswald's in helping us to successfully raise the £10,000 needed to refurbish the bells in 2014.
