St. Oswald’s Choristers
The young people in the choir are totally dedicated to the task of providing the best in church music and consistently enrich the liturgy at St. Oswald’s with music of a breadth and standard that is normally only found in our cathedrals and larger collegiate churches
However, achieving the consistently high standard at which the choir sings week by week does not happen without a lot of hard work and a huge commitment in time from the choristers. They practice twice every week with additional practices one hour before every service and a third weekly practice in small groups to follow the Royal School of Church Music’s Voice for Life Scheme.
The Annual Summer School
One of the key areas of our choir training is the Annual Residential Summer School in Bath every August. The choristers receive a week of intensive vocal training from some of the country’s top choir trainers and sing the weekend services in the fabulous setting of Bath Abbey.
Because we always send a good number of choristers to the summer school, we have been given reduced price this year and the total cost per chorister is £555, one pound less that 2023. We are, therefore, once again running our ‘Adopt a Chorister’ Scheme and invite individuals or groups to support one of our choristers by adopting them and contributing to the cost of their week at Bath.
Adopters will receive not only our heartfelt thanks but also communications (post cards and letters) from the choristers letting them know of their progress. We are very aware of all the calls on people’s finances at the present time but hope that you will feel that this is a worthwhile venture in supporting and maintaining the fine choral services that we enjoy at St. Oswald’s.
If you would like to Adopt a Chorister please fill out the form, (left) and send it to us with your donation. All donations whether for the whole or part of the cost will be most gratefully received.
